The SGGMP is a specialist group of the Geological Society of Australia concerned with the advancement of all aspects of geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology.

The SGGMP is the linking organisation between the Geological Society of Australia (GSA) and the International Mineralogical Association (IMA).

SGGMP activities include:

• An annual newsletter on key developments (see Newsletters)
• Biennial conferences (see Events)
• Field trips within Australia (see Events)
• Student sponsorship
• The 'Ringwood medal' for best paper in Geochemistry, Mineralogy or Petrology
